Emergency Brake, Fuel Indicator Not Working

Recommended Posts

hi all,

GS300 sport MK1

whilst on a main road, some idiot decided to just pull out of a side road. anyway i had to emergency brake. after stopping at my desination a few mins later i noticed that my fuel indicator is on Empty. it was previously on the first bar. is this normal. do i need to reset something? im thinking it may be a fuel shut off when involved in an accident, or if you hit the brakes or ABS. anyone come across this?

thanks

finest

From what I can gather, the fuel guage on these cars don't work purely from the sender in the tank. The guage moves as it thinks it has used the fuel, and periodically re-adjusts based on the sender unit in the tank. I guess if you emrgency braked at a point when it was re-adjusting from the sender, you could end up with an indication when the fuel was sloshed forward in the tank.
