Lower Bumper Trim/spoiler

Hi I've just defected from Mercedes and bought my first Lexus. A 87,000 mile 1996 LS400. Wow, these cars are so good.

It's immaculate except for on the bottom edge of the front bumper there's a 1 inch high piece of trim that's been broken.

What is it called please?

Can I get another one?

If so, where from and how much can I expect to pay?

Don't know the answer but I bet you bought your car for next to nothing moneywise ! And isn't it just about the best car one can ever drive !

Hello,

I'm not sure what you call it but it is available from lexus dealers at around £40. Its a bit fiddly to fit (Held on by 5 small bolts), but takes about 1 hour.

I eventually removed mine.

Had mine for over 2 years now - cannot fault it in any way - ben on the look out for a "unique" Mark 4 but nothing has come up so far

Hi guys,

my advice would be not to bother replacing the bit of trim. Just remove any broken bits that are still attached so it doesn't look scruffy.

I can almost guarantee that as soon as you put a new bit of trim on you will have to park somewhere "nose in" and there will be a curb that is just high enough to smash you new investment. The car is so long that you have to put the nose over the curb or the rear end will be blocking the road.

Look around at other LS400s and there are not that many that have a fully intact lower bumper trim. :winky:

Just my experience of owning a couple of LS400s.

I agree with every word of this! I like a car to be 'complete' and as soon as my left-hand trim was damaged I replaced it (£37, three years ago). Two weeks later I caught it reversing out of a drive with a steep ramp and it has been busticated ever since.

Before Redsteve's post, I was thinking exactly the same. Having not caught the trim (as yet) it must be a certainty to do so once replaced.

I was looking to replace mine then the next week pulled the front bumper off, scraped along an invisible low wall. Forget it at the price its worth today!

Firstly, thank you for such useful responses, I think I'm going to enjoy it here.

Secondly, I think I am going to heed your advice and not replace it. I was performing a 3 point turn today and caught the reminance of the trim on a steep driveway. If it had been a new part I possibly would have broken it again.

It may do on other cars(I think I can see them in your photo) but I don't seem to have them.
