Mark 1 Starting Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have owned a 52 Mark 1 for the last year with no issues, however now the engine will not start. THere is a clicking noise, the display screen flickers and the engine does not turn over, the fan and radio work however?

thanks

Flat Battery (could be dying) or a sticking starter motor - I doubt it will be anything else.

For the former, try jump starting, if the Battery on the vehicle is slightly down on power (or if it has a dead cell) this will be overcome to allow you to start.

In this instance I would change the Battery asap, rather than being left stranded.

If that doesn't work you need tow people, one to turn the key & the other to tap the starter motor with a hammer (not TAP, not bl**dy great whack!), if it starts you could be in for a new starter motor soon (keep the hammer handy in case it sticks again.

Unfortunatley, being an auto, you can't rock the car in gear for the last option.

Good Luck!

Marty
