Hello Lexus Owners,

I wonder if you can help me ? I have just purchased a 2001 LS430 with 79,000 miles for £ 2800. It's in good condition although a few of the electrics and radio seem to be playing up.I am having problems working the radio from the front center console and from the steering wheel. However, the radio does work from the rear controls located in the rear armrest. This is most annoying as my two children have control of what's played and I cannot stand Kiss FM at full volume? Do any of you have any suggestions ?

Also, I have noticed that someone has pinched one of the rear parking sensors - Does anyone know a cost for these and where to purchase ?

I would also like trace the service history for the vehicle but after contacting Lexus Woodford they informed me that the vehicle was not on their database. However, they did confirm that it was a UK model etc. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can obtain this information.

Thank you in advance for any advice that you may offer and apart from the 'Gremlins' mentioned above the car drives like a dream !

Best regards,

Adam

Hello Adam,

Welcome to the LOC.

Sounds like you took a gamble with your purchase with partial service history.

The LS 430 is a lovely car. I would advise you to do a HPI check on it if you have not done so already.

This will probably reveal a bit more about the history. Also, you might have to locate a specialist near you to give the car a good going over.

Either that or your local dealer will be able to pinpoint your stereo issues. Other members who have had these issues in the past will contact you.

Parking sensors have been discussed on this forum so many times that I've lost count!! I think they are a bit expensive from the stealership but the other members will point you in the right direction, I'm sure.

Enjoy...

Hi £2800 bargain of the year, I think you will have to contact the previous owner about the history , then you can get a printout from the dealer ( if its been serviced by Lexus). Did you buy it at auction ( seems the only way possable to get it at that price) & possably the radio problem might be one of the reasons for it being sent to auction.

Good luck with it & Im sure someone will be along soon to help with your issues

Ta Mark

Hi and thanks for your response. The car was stolen recovered in June 2009 and comes with no service history, instruction books etc. I have just had the car fully serviced by an independent dealer, including front pads and discs, spark plugs, timing belt and a new Michelin tyre for just under £1000 which was nearly half what Lexus quoted. The car drives fantastically well except for the gremlins mentioned earlier. I have been drving an E-Class Mercedes for the last couple of years and my initial thoughts are the Lexus is a much more comfortable drive, although slightly less enaging. This suits me down to the ground as I do a daily 100-mile commute.

The car has got the Premium pack and the massaging seats are genius.

Just managed to track down the first four services which were done by Lexus Leeds ( got info from the number plate ) ! There is also a sticker in the window for Lexus Stockport.I have contacted them and unfortunately they cannot locate the vehicle on their system.

Hi.

The balance/front rear etc is controled from the sat nav screen, not from the radio, press the Audio button next to the screen then you can see how the adjustments are made.

You will probably find that someone has shoved it all through the back speakers because one or more of the fronts are blown.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for that. That has allowed me to see the radio functions on the Sat Nav.However, the problem is the radio under the sat nav. This has no power so cannot be turned on and cannot turn up the volume etc. It also seems like the controls on the steering wheel are not working. So at the moment the only way to control the radio is through the rear arm rest controls. Do you know if this could be a fuse or something else ? I have just seen from the service history that a new Battery was put on the car in October. Would this be a factor ?

I would be grateful if anyone could provide any information.

Best regards,

Adam

Can you tell if it's had a car kit fitted for a mobile ? as sounds like there might have been one fitted with the mute function and the wiring could have been cut without care to remove it.

Sorry misread the post.

Ok if you press the audio button next to the screen with the radio off, then it should read AUDIO OFF.

What happens if you press the right hand knob on the radio receiver on the dash?

If nothing happens, then I would whip the unit out to see if there is a plug out of the back.

If the radio comes on, then it could be a faulty unit.

This may be some help to you:

http://bahamutcars.free.fr/workshop/LS_01-...ents/index.html

You will need adobe acrobat reader installed to see it.

The audio section is under Repair Manual ( 2003.8 - )
