Just Bought An Is200 Sport

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Been watching this board for a while now but thought it was about time that I joined in.

I have my own design company and one of our clients is a salvage yard. Ive been asking him to keep an eye out for an IS200 and at last I got the call. I managed to get an 2001 IS200 sport (without sat nav or styling kit) for £8600.

The car had been stolen and recovered and had no damage what so ever! There were a few scratches on her body though so I managed to get 4 perfcet alloys put on and had it sprayed bumper to bumper for a total price of £9000. It has a completely clean HPI, still under warranty (has done 28,000 miles), the kiknd man at my local dealershaip has managed to source a full service history by emailing all dealers and I Pick her up on wednesday - I Cannot wait!. Goodbye Peugeot 206!

It only came with one key though, but I managed to write to the previous owner who sent me the other key straight away - What a nice man.

Here are some pickys from the salvage yard. The pics dont do it justice though. The inside was just dusty and has cleaned up as new.

It's got a different spoiler than the ones ive seen here - Is that an add on?

Thanks Zee. Is the handbrake always on the left hand side of the centre console? Or is mine some sort of import?

Ive just gone gold, looking forward to contributing to the group. I doubt my wallet is as keen as I am though!

Thanks again. What do you think of the price? (not meaning to brag, if its something worth bragging about)

Great price in my opinion (considering you got the FSH, no damage, low milage etc etc).... :)

Well done on the bargain find!

What's the deal with insuring it and future values? Do you also have to declare it was a recovered vehicle when you sell it?

Welcome! Nice car, and a bargain price! As you say, the salvage photos don't do it justice, so can't wait to see some piccies now you've given it some "TLC" :P

As far as insurance and reselling the vehicle goes no one is any the wiser. When a car is stolen and recovered, depending on the cirumstances it then becomes either registered or unregistered. In this case it was actually registered as stolen but once it was recovered the police and the insurance company removed the 'stolen' marker from both the HPI register and the DVLA Swansea. It is therefore completely clean and to be treated as a private sale from the previous owner to myself.

If the car was damaged in any way then it would have been registered as a cat c or cat d write off, but luckily this was not the case. Checked wiith my local Lexus dealers in Newcastle who looked into it and also confirmed that the warranty is valid and tha the car is to be treated as normal!

After having spoken to the previous owner it turns out that he left the car running on the forecourt of a petrol station in Birmingham whilst buying some cigarettes, not surprisinly, someone saw the oppertunity and drove his innocent baby away. It was then found 2 months later by the police, by which time the insurance company had already replaced the vehicle.

I am not usaully one to take £9,000 risks so made sure that all was good before agreeing.

Just cant wait to get her now! :D

PS - I will get round to sorting out my signature soon. Steve, can I have my Gold logo yet? (I already have access to gold)

Also,

The exhaust on my IS isnt in that shiny chrome that i've seen around? Is this normal? how can I change it? How much does it cost? :withstupid: Is there a gold discount?

The retail price for the chrome finisher is £40, but I'm sure you Gold guys will get it cheaper.
