Hi all,

On reading the topic from bazzman needing help on buying is first Lexus, and the comments on servo master cylinder by tiggerfish and dave 1 interest me as mine is a early mk 2 1998, its done 147,000 and running fine at momment but would like to know more about the servo master cylinder as i will be doing a 500 mile trip this weekend,so the questions are-

Is there any early signs of this going.

Are they servicable or repairable

Many thanks

Don

I'm not aware of any early warning signs, just that the abs/vsc lights come on and a buzzer noise sounding. They are not repairable as far as I know, or I should say, no oner has ever posted that they fixed one. There is a diagnostic procedure in the worksop manual I believe, but no idea if it leads to any other remedy than replacing the unit.

From what other members have previously posted these units seem to have been failing around the 100k miles area.

Although this is a known fault on pre facelift cars, which has been reported by some LOC members, I would imagine that most cars were not affected, although a larger unit was fitted on cars manufactured after Oct/Nov 2000. Personally I think it worth having a good extended warranty, which coupled with breakdown/recovery service memberships tend to take most of the worry out of driving.

Don't let these posts worry you too much though.
