Hi all,

It's been quite a while since i've been on the forum, hope the forum has been helpful as ever. Anyway let me get to the point, my friend owns a rx400h, he has a realy bad smell coming from the air vents. It only happens when the normal fan is on, and not the aircon. I have checked the pollen filter and used air con clear, which kills bacteria. The smell is pungent to say the least, a kind of pissy smell. LOL. Any ideas what it could be? :winky:

Has he had it parked up and not used for a while? just a thought, my GS i didn't use for a while and when i put it in for a service they removed the pollen filter only to find it was full of peanuts as was all the air vent ducts, the GS was home to mice over the winter months, 2 hours labour to strip vents and clean out, that had a rather unpleasent smell out of vents for a few months.

Just a thought.

Phil

Not sure of the cause but this worked for me :

1) start car

2) stick a/c on full- make sure recirculate is off (or in your case switch a/c off)

3) under wiper blades outside there are 3 grills.

4) close doors

5) spray dettox or any nice smelling anti bacterial into each vent 3 or 4 times

6) leave engine running and ventilation on full for 5 mins - alternate between lower and upper and def a few times

7) repeat spray.

This cleans from the outside in rather than inside out.

Good luck!
