ethanol works best for me..

failing that try wd40??

I had to remove old foam sticky pads when I replaced a number plate. As well as using WD40, which works pretty well, you can also try tar remover (e.g. Autoglm), which is what I used. It was still hard work though and didn't magically fall off.

wow never thought wd40 would work.

Would petrol work?

Be careful with petrol it can damage some types of plastics.

I buy a special "label remover" in an aerosol can good on sticky pads, sellotape (other brands are available) and even for removing stick on badges on the boot lid!

Causes no paint damage and smells of oranges.

Plenty on Fleabay just type in "label remover"
