New Timing Belt?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My Mk1 GS is just overdue a new cambelt - i know this won't be cheap! Does anyone know how much a OEM Lexus cambelt is? TDI have a HKS one (http://www.tdi-plc.com/catalog/product_inf...oducts_id=16895) that I THINK fits the 2JZ GE engine for just over a hundred quid, but if this is a lot more than the OEM one, i'll go for that.

Basically, does anyone know how much the OEM one is, and is it worth spending a little extra on the HKS one if it costs more?

Stick to the OEM cambelt- only upgrade if you car has extra bhp (from a turbo/supercharger etc)- although a OEM cambelt should be able to cope with the extra bhp.

As a bit of a comforter, the MK1 GS engine is a non-interference engine so if the belt snaps, no internal damage will occur. Just plonk on a new belt (and tensioner) and off you go. So in theory, you could just keep going until it pings.
