Beam Deflectors

I am intending taking my RX400h over the Channel in June and need to deal with the headlight beam alignment issue. With previous cars I have simply stuck on a pair of beam deflectors but am not sure how to do this as the headlights of the RX do not have the 'fluted' segments that my old Volvo, for example, had for aligning the deflectors. Any advice would be welcome.

I must admit I am not familiar with the projector HLs on the Mk2 but most vehicles using projector HLs usually have a tag or lever that can be moved to facilitate LHD or RHD beam patterns, have a look in the owners manual under "driving abroad" .

Thanks for this David - makes sense but I can't find anything in the handbok about it. I think I will have a look under the bonnet and see if there is anything there that looks like a lever to change the beam alignments to LHD.

This has been much discussed in the past.

I originally asked I Lexus Guildford how to adjust them and was told that because the headlamps are the eyeball sort they do not have a left-biased pattern, just an even spread. (Mine are the sort that go round corners on my 2004 RX300).

Therefore, the reasoning goes, no need for any adjustment.

I have done thousands of miles in Europe since then and never been flashed, so they might well be right.

I can confirm that the HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps on the RX 350 do not need to be
converted for travel on the continent. The set up of the headlamp is such that the light shines in a horizontal
flat beam which has no kick up and as such is not dazzling to drivers of oncoming cars.

As you have suggested, we would recommend that the Intelligent Adaptive Front-lighting
System (I-AFS) is switched off when travelling on the continent.
