12v Power Socket In The Armrest

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I wanna charge my MP3 player from the 12v socket in the armrest

Question? Do you get a right angled 12 v male socket to go into the power. All the normal ones are to high in profile and get in the way of closing the armrest!

If so any links would be great. Cheers!

I had chargers for my iPod and snooper from my old car. When I tried them on the Lexus, I could close the armrest perfectly. I think it's more of a case of trying different ones out, you don't need a right angled one, there is enough space for some. I recommend buying them on a high street shop so if you need to you can return them back easily.

Just as a note, charging your MP3 player while listening to it might cause some serious interference.

Couldn't you just get one of those cheapo multiport adaptors from Halfords to plug into the lighter socket which would then give you two or three ports available in the glovebox?

Would probably work out much cheaper and easier than buying multiple specialist adaptors?

Might be an option but bulky in an alteady cramped space. I think the male plug may pose the same problem but will check it out!

I have one of the Halfords ones and it does the trick. The male plug fits under the armrest fine, and I have the 3-way adapter velcro-ed on to the vertical wall in front of it. It takes up less than 1" of the available space.

Hope this helps!

This was discussed on here not long after the second generation IS was introduced http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...29977&st=20

This is one I used before I had the Lexus MP3 adaptor fitted to allow touchscreen/steering wheel control. It's from apple. ipodvw6.jpg

Great! Do you know the number of the bulletin so I can tell my Lexus dealership in case they don't know about it?

Thanks for the info.

Above is link to the apple online store and a good in-car charger, the Griffin Power Jolt SE. Cost £19.98 excl. postage. The lead comes out of the side of the charger and so fits easily in the power adapter and allows you to close the armrest.

You might be able to buy the same charger in the High Street, i.e. o2 phone shops.

I just bought one a couple of days ago from eBay for £8.50 brand new :-) ... It is I believe the best car charger around for the iPod/iPhone (it is fused which is very important!), and as you said it fits really easily in the armrest. I can even pull it out slightly so it is not connected (when I am not charging), and still close the armrest with no problems.
