Brakes...help!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have a problem with my IS. Basically the brake pedal is very soft and can be pushed to the floor with ease. I also get a bad juddering just before coming to a stop.

I have replaced the front discs and pads and this has solved the juddering, I guess the discs were warped. I then bled the system and noticed that one of the front calipers has a crack in it and when the pedal is depressed it leaks fluid. I know Im probably answering my own question but would a leak in the caliper cause the pedal to be so soft, as my initial thought would of been master cylinder. Is there any way to test to eliminate the master cylinder/caliper, ie clamping the brake hose to the effected caliper to eliminate the master cylinder etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I start spending silly money on replacing things. I know I need a new caliper so this will get replaced, Im just concerned about the master cylinder. Cheers.

Replace/repair the caliper. No reason why it should be master cylinder unless you can see a leak. Since the caliper needs sorting it makes more sense to rectify that fault first.
