Gs 430 Tech Issue.

Over the last few days I have noticed a whistling/chirping from under the bonnet on starting and tickover. Booked the car into my local Lexus dealer to investigate this and a couple of other things. Turns out that it is the main drive belt slipping slightly. Fortunately there is a tech notice regarding this and apparently involves some sort of change to the tensioning of the belt. Car is now booked in to have this carried out FOC. I don't know if it is just the 00-05 GS 430 affected or if the SC/LS 430 is too, since they share the same engine, but I would suggest checking.

Do you have an extended warranty mate or is it FOC as it was a recall?

Not a recall as far as I know. There is a tech bulletin though addressing this issue, so I would think it would be a FOC job even without warranty. Nothing to lose by asking though is there. Bought the car last May from Lexus Coventry as Lexus Approved so have warranty too, just as well because a noise I noticed from front o/s they have found to be upper wishbone which they are going to do under the warranty.

TSBs aren't normally FOC unless the vehicle is within warranty.

I didn't realise that either....I'm glad mine is in warranty.

Not really a case of bringing car up to date, more an initial design fault surely, if it is done to rectify the drive belt tensioning? If I had to pay for it, the fix would be over £100 !
