Supercharger Insurance Premium

Thought i'd bump this question in a new topic, that's a bit more obvious.. :)

For those of you who've Supercharged their IS's, what kind of :arrrggg-matey: insurance hit  have the cowboys given for adding all those extra horses?

I'm toying with a Turbo for my Altezza as in this thread and am waiting for the GOLD insurance underwriters to come back to me on a quote, but I want to make sure there is some parity between the two mods...

IS200 + TTE Supercharge = +57hp approx = 210 total

Altezza + HKS Turbo kit = +46hp approx = 256 total :whistling:

I'm hoping the additional premiums are going to roughly the same... so how much have you lot had to pay?

i have my insured in Germany

having fitted the s/c i informed the insurance and the premium never went up that much about 50 euros to a total of 100 euros a month the excess wnt up alot though to 1000 euros

ive just been in to inform them of the 2jz-gte conversion, and the premium wont go up nor the excess as...............the car is now over the insurance threshold of 220ps/hp its the same rate from now on......

how chuffed was i, so now my cover wont change even if i have 1000 hp

Cheers Mat. I think you're lucky pretty lucky out there... they sting you every which way in the UK... :crybaby:

I'm happy to whack up my excess to keep the premium down, but I'm still in the dark as to what I should expect, and when they come back to me, I want to make sure their quote is reasonable and on par with what the Supercharged guys are paying... assuming they've declared them!:blink::ohmy::whistling:

KV

PS: Where did you get the graphics done on your car? They look neat and all in-line so I'm reckoning a custom job?

I want to get some small transparent graphics done to reflect the engineering mods in the car. I'm thinking transparent/translucent so they're only visible when the catch the light from certain angles - none of this bling bling stuff :P ahem.

My previous insurer wouldn't give me cover for a modded motor, so with the help LOC Gold Membership I took out a policy with the LOC insurance scheme and I tell you now I was very surprised at how low the premium was

excellent Chris - glad to hear it!

the insurance scheme should really pay off in spades for guys with mods - not only do the insurers understand modifications, I believe they also cover the mods as well - so should the worse happen to your pride and joy - the insurance payout should cover replcing not only the car - but the modifications as well.

just one of the advantages of becoming a gold member

Lets put it this way guys with the help of the LOC Insurance Scheme open to all Gold Members my premium is under 800.00 with all mods including supercharger declared

Prior to compressor, mine was about 550.

Went up to about 750 when i told them about it + spoilers, grille etc ...

They upped from group 12 to modified group 16.

Old duffer (36), sleepy suffolk, street parking, Max ncd,

£50xs, business + pleasure use.

I'm going to haggle with them about the grouping soon.

Try and get it back down to something sensible before July renewal.

This is good news.... hopefully, they'll come back with £200-300 for my import with a Turbo, which is an acceptable hit... well not entirely unreasonable anyway... :backofnet:

It helps to get some kind of parity, so that if they come back with a silly figure, I can point this stuff out... especially as I'm with the GOLD LOC scheme.

Cheers!
