1999 Ls400 Wheel Wobble......

Hi

A mate of mine has a 1999 LS400 and has had a terrible time with wheel wobble at about 60-75mph. He lives miles from me and I haven't driven the car myself. He has so far changed 2 x Upper Control Arms, 2 x Lower Ball Joints, 2 x Anti Roll Bar Bushes, 2 x New Pirelli tyres (fitted and balanced), He's had a full geometry check.

He got that lot done (only about £800!!!) and guess what its just the same, the "new tyre" feel is there but so is the wheel wobble, he says maybe slightly less than before but it's still there.

He's fed up with chucking money at it and him and me are running out of ideas.....

Any one out there got an idea???

sticking calipers, warped discs or buckled rim ?

Probably too simple and already checked but, Are the inner surface of the alloy and the hub it bolts too clean ?

a small amount of dirt or grit may prevent the bolts securing the alloy flat.

Front

Just been on to him, the wheels have been balanced by 3 different companies now. The fronts (with new tyres) are brand new and fitted and balanced yesterday. They have done less than 30 miles since fitment.

The front discs and pads were replaced 4000 miles ago and the rear pads were replaced 9000 miles ago (all genuine parts).

The rear wheels have been balanced.

Take off all four wheels and the securing pins at the end of the shafts. They gun up the bolts(about 32mm), All four and reattach wheels and go for a drive and let me know if the problem goes within the first 50 odd miles and then comes back.

You can also jack each wheel and wiggle north south(Hands on wheel) to show any movement.

If that doesn't work then switch the wheels from front to back and try that to see if problem moves around the car, This will just show that the problem is with the wheels. If still in same place then there's something else.
