Buzzing Noise On Start Up

So I popped in today to the local Lexus garage, as I discovered an odd buzzing noise; it happened when I pressed the start button to turn on the engine and only lasts a second or so. It also happens when I open the drivers door to get out the car.

Lexus thought that it was something to do with the speedo/rev counter, only for a Technician to state that it is actually the steering lock engaging/disengaging. The service manager took me round some demos including a brand new 250 auto. And they all made the same noise.

So there is nothing wrong with it after all - just a 'feature'. If a bit loud.

Anyone else noticed this?

Yes & it is the steering lock that,I guess,is electrically dis-engaged.
