Anyone know how long Air Con Gas lasts for? What i mean is how long do you wait until you have to top up your gas.

Having my Air Con system serviced tommorow.. now of a really good company near me .. very helpful and very reasonable.

Dunno about lexus but my vauxhall's lasted 6 years ok. It only needed replacing when I had a leak. (Gas with dye to find leak, plus fix, plus more gas = £500!)

Ouch! Thats a lot of money

I am Paying £25 for Leak search, £120 for Gas conversion from the old type gas to the new type... and that includes the gas in the price.. and £40 for replacement seal

£200 and i will have my whole system serviced..

Who did you re-gas and leak fix?

you shouldnt have to replace the aircon gas unless you have a leak in the system, it is best to run the sytem every now and then to keep the system lubricated and prevent the seals from drying out - common cause of leaks BTW

they used to use freon but now its been replaced by a ozone friendly alternative.

The normal acceptable quoted leak rate is between 25 - 100 Gram/year (1 - 4 oz). My 400 has between 1 - 1.4 Kg of R12 (Freon). As for the changing of gas in the system mine now runs on HC's. They seem to work well and don't need major conversions or oil changes. They are a lot better for the enviroment ( R134a is about 70 times worse for global worming) and apply less load to the compressor. The change is in it's infancy on my car but I'll try to keep you posted as to what happens.

Run the A/C for 15min every month and this will prolong the life of the system

R12 refrigerant was used in air/con systems up to 1995 when its production was banned in the EU.Since 1995 R134a has been used. If you look in your yellow pages you will find companies that will service or recharge them for you.

I cover the south east wales area with a mobile (i come to you) service and can be contacted on 01495 785207.
