Identifying Item Under Bonnet

On checking the various fluid levels etc on my IS200, I saw something containing fluid that I'm not sure what it is. It's a small reservoir immediately to the right brake fluid reservoir (smaller than the one for brake fluid). Is it fluid for the clutch hydraulics ?

I couldn't see anything on it in the handbook, or the online workshop manual (though I might just have missed it).

ok, thanks. So going from the handbook, I top this up with brake fluid, yes ?

TOP IT UP WITH WHAT IT SAYS ON THE CAP but in general it is brake fluid DOT5 but not DOT5.1

i thought lexus used dot 4

which is not compatable with dot 5 but it is dot 5.1

SORRY wrong way round - u can mix DOT 3,4 and 5.1 but not DOT 3,4 and 5. DOT 5 is silicone based and the others are glycol based.

I believe its DOT 3..? brake fluid....if in doubt phone up Lexus and ask to speak to the service manager . ;)

Lexus do use Dot 3.

unless you've changed it all to 5.1 ;)

dot 3, dot 4 and dot 5.1 are all interchangable as its glycol based but dot 5.1 has the highest boiling point, with dot 3 the lowest etc etc - wont make any difference on normal road driving tho
