My Dad Wants One Now

hi folks, i am the very proud owner of a ls400 p reg, promised myself one for years and now finall got it, best car i have ever drove....... now you probably thinking am in the wrong section but am not and this is why.................... my dad is now ready to change his car.

jokingly i suggested a ls400 but he says its too big.... i agree as his driveway would not accomodate one.

i have now got him considering an is200, he likes the look of them and i have spotted a few on autotrader. he will pay a maximum of £5000. and wants an automatic, i have stressed he should get one with service history, apart from this we dont know what to look for.

is there anything in particular he should look for ?

is there a certain model or year to avoid ?

what year/spec can he expect to get for £ 5k ?

many thanks

twin

ps

after this i wll bugger off back to my ls400 forum and leave you alone

Your Dad might want to bear in mind the outrageous car tax hikes planned for the near future for cars registered since 1st March 2001, e.g. the IS200's tax will go up to over £400 from 2010 !

Things might change between now and then of course, but your Dad might want to play on the safe side and look for cars registered before 1/3/01, which will stick with the flat rate of tax (since they don't have their CO2 emissions on the V5).

Most of the models you will see for sale will be SE and Sport spec. It's personal preference which one you prefer really, I don't think there's much/any cost difference. There might be a few S models around, probably best to avoid those since you get much better equipment on SE/Sport.

Easy! Nothing wrong with the S model :whistling: Although i would have got a sport if i had enough cash at the time :shutit: S model is more RARE though :D

As people have said it might be worth getting an early model, like mine as the tax will stay at around £200 ish. No major problems with any year i know of but someone might say different.

Sorry, no offence intended  :winky:

I like your point about the S model being "rare" though ! :D

Twin - check out the pinned posting near the top of this forum "IS200 Spec Sheet", which tells you the equipment on each of the models, if you haven't seen this already.
