Bonnet Release

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Quick one...Today I was re-filling the washer fluid (as I do on a sunday afternoon). Unfortunately the bonnet would not re-engage. I inspected the cable and it was loose (the release catch inside the car had not returned to its original position and felt slack). I decided to tinker with the bonnet catch by ensuring that the cable pull was fully housed. This worked and the bonnet re-engaged when I closed the hood. Unfortunately its now stuck closed as the release catch won't open the bonnet at all. Is there another way of getting the bonnet open? or am I going to have to get a garage involved

Err Welcome,

Sounds like the cable is possibly snapped to me.

Not sure how to get it open though i'm afraid.

Thanks mate, lots of work and money lol

Edit: have you checked the wire is still attached to the back of the handle in the car? it may not be snapped, just broken off the back. If it has just grip it with some pliers and pull.

Look here: Workshop manual

Only works in Internet explorer, but look in Repair manual, body, then hood lock control.

The other possibility is the wire has rusted and seized up inside the plastic protecting layer. This happened to me once and I needed to get a new cable fitted. This was not on my Lexus though, was on a Rover 45 diesel I used for getting to work when I used to do 100 miles a day.
