Power Steering Problems!

It's easy to adjust the drive belt tension, buddy. I've included a picture, that may help, it also has torque values of the bolts.

Here's a step by step.

Step 1. Loosen the hinge bolt, but don't take it out. This is the long bolt at the bottom of the pump and is accessable from the exhaust manifold side using a socket ans extension.

Step 2. Loosen the smaller Tension Set bolt at the top of the pump, this goes through a guide rail that sticks out from the engine.

Step 3. Find a suitable lever, (i used a breaker bar but any bit of pipe, angle iron etc should do the trick) and slot it between the pump housing and the engine block. Being careful not damage any pipes/wires in the process.

Step 4. Slowly apply pressure so the pump is forced outwards away from the engine. While the pressure is held, tighten the Tension set bolt on the guide, to hold the pump in place. You may to do this more than once to set the right tension.

Step 5. The manual says you should check the tension of the belt by applying pressure to it mid way between the Steering Pump pulley and the Water Pump pulley. With a pressure of 10kgf (kilogram force) the belt should deflect by 7.00-9.00mm. If it doesn't, repeat steps until required tension is set.

Step 6. Finally tighten up the Hinge bolt at the bottom of the pump.

Job done.
