Windscreen Washer Jets..

Recommended Posts

I get my IS200 SE back either Saturday or Monday - with LSD fitted! When I get it back, I'm going to try solve a little niggling problem I've noticed...

Some of you may remember I mentioned a problem with my washer jets. Initially I thought it might be due to a broken pump - but upon closer inspection, I can hear it working. Similarly, my headlight washers work, eliminating an issue with the reservoir not supplying the pump(s).

Fuses are fine and I notice that when looking under the bonnet, the tubing leading to the jets from the pump/reservoir seems to be hanging down, fairly loosely. No water leaves the jets at all, but I can hear the usual whirring noise.

Anyone experienced something similar? A few pointers or possible causes would be good - I'll take a look the second I get the car back.

The motor can still be turning even if the splines on the impeller that actually "pump" the water are broken. This can happen quite easily if the washers are squirted when the washer bottle is frozen solid for instance. If you have tried pulling the piping off and see if it pumps water further down the piping towards the pump and there is still no joy, and there are no trapped pipes anywhere, I would still suspect a knacked pump.

Yeah, quite possibly the case. Snapped fins, I mean. I'll take a peak when I get her back.

Similarly, the water pump for the cooling system - are the impellar fins plastic or brass?
