Installing Aftermarket Head Unit

Recommended Posts

Right i have been without a CD player for a week now thanks to error 3. Reading through these forums and a few Pms off members have helped a lot.

I know that to replace it i need the amp bypass lead which is available on eBay for about £30. I also need a HU (obviously), and im gonna stick the ripspeed touchscreen screen in the car. Only reason for that is to minimise my losses when i upgrade to a is220d next year.

Obviously i need some kind of fascia surround for the new CD player but with it being a fold out screen i dont know if this is right.

I found this http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/fp2500-lexu...1998-p-317.html for the fascia. Will that work with this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...55#BVQAWidgetID?

There are two people on eBay selling the bypass leads. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lexus-IS200-SE-Sport...1QQcmdZViewItem or http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lexus-is200-se-sport...1QQcmdZViewItem. One is a fiver cheaper but i cant find anyone on here who has bought off him whereas the other guy has good reviews here.

I have a bypass lead installation guide thanks to a pm from aaron and if possible im gonna get Halfords to fit the screen for me. Its £20 to get it fitted but saves me time and it should work properly that way!

I guess im just looking for advice on which parts will make it look best when its installed and will cost me as little as possible :D

How do you take the old HU out. I have no stereo keys for it- would Halfords have this anyway? And how do i install the fascia. I just need simple as possible instructions to get it done as quick as possible lol. Besides the gypass lead, new HU and fascia do i need anything else?

Cheers

the first link is the facia adapter that you need that way it doesnt matter if you have a single or double din headunit cos you can change the way its made up.it dont matter which bypass lead that you get there both the same its up to you.if Halfords are gonna fit it for you they should know what to do if not the top and bottom trays just pull out which then expose the bolts for the heater controls and factory hu.

I have an IS200/IS300 fascia kit I don't want/need so if you PM your address I'll stick it in the post and you can have it. Or depending where in Nottingham you are (read Derby side ;) ) I could meet somewhere near Bardills and you can have it.

Hiya matey,

have a look at my IS200 ICE Thread, in the first post is all the info you need regarding available Facias.

There is also in the first link, my Modifying Facia thread, which shows how you can make the Facia kit

fit the OE look of the dash & A/C control panel.

Also if you can send me a PM with an external email address, I have a word doc. walkthru to getting out the original head unit.

Any other problems, just holla :)
