Buzzing Noise From Rear - Rx300

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a 53 plate RX300, which on starting the engine, starts a buzzing from the rear of the car. It can be heard from outside the car also when the car is stationery, suggesting it is coming from a unit on the car. This continues and comes on intermittently when the car is stationery or moving. I can still hear at slow speed, but not after that - this may just be because the at a higher speed it is no longer audible.

Is this normal? Do you know where this noise comes from?

Thanks

Hi' and welcome to LOC.

It's not a fault I have heard of on this forum.

If you bought it from a main dealer then maybe worth taking it back to them. They can run it on rollers and see if the noise is constant at higher speeds and diagnose the fault.

It's not an air suspension (SE L) is it? The air pump makes a buzzing noise on this model from drivers side rear.

Hi Alan,

Yes, it is an SE-L. Is the buzzing something that is normal or for me to be concerned about,

Many thanks

Stuart

I've always assumed it's the air pump to pressurise the system. It probably stops when it needs to and cuts in again to "top up". If so, I'd be more concerned about it not buzzing rather than buzzing!

If you ever have to change a wheel make sure you switch it to OFF.

Also check tyre pressures - if you get a leak it will constantly be trying to keep the car level and you may hear the pumps working

If the system is anything like every other manufacturers it reads the distance between chassis and suspension/axle to keep on an even keel......low or flat tyres will have no or neglible difference on ride hieght as far as the self levelling is concerned.

But sounds like (literally) the air pump working away there.....shouldn't be constant though!
