Hi just phoned my local Garage that I normally use but he is getting dear. he wants £47 a hour to change my timing belt. He reckons 3 - 4 hours to change. £141 inc vat or £ 188 inc vat with my self supplying the belt. All books stamped and a service receipt.

There is another garage that alot of my friends use and is highly recomened but never used by self he wants £ 80 with no vat.with no receipt or books stamped .

Belt and tensioners £85

What do you think. I would save nearly 60 - 80

thanks

I spoke To the cheaper garage today and he has agreed to stamp my service book. And give my self a sevice receipt to show prove of change over sounds okay to me.

Mines due and im going to pay top bucks as im not going to risk anything with the timming belt (hell i usually pay full amount as i've had one too many incidents with trying to cut corners by saving and end up shooting my own foot lol, i learnt the hard way, so never again!)...imagine if you went down the road after its done and a valve flies out of ya engine block...saving of 60-80 quid, but lose out in £2000+ and the hassel of trying to get garage to payout, insurance, no car etc etc. But without knowing the garage i can't say for sure, but you really do need a receipt for the work thats been carried out. You may even lose out in insurance if they find out you just had a new belt installed etc but can't prove it with anything, and isn't it by law that a garage should always provide receipt for any work carried out, so it protects both the garage and yourself? Pay the £188+£85!
