Maintenance Of The Cd/tape System

Recommended Posts

Apart from commonsense of looking after your CDs and tapes i.e. putting them in their cases, etc to maintain the tape deck you should use one of those cleaning tape systems (wet type with the felt pads best) to clean the entire tape path. Hard to find them these days. Would demagnetising the tape heads be useful? I hardly use tapes anymore but sometimes there's a need.

As for the CD player you can get one of those CD lens cleaners and disc cleaning micro-fibre cloths / system?

That's about it?

I know relatively little about about the system in the IS as I replaced it as soon as I bought the car. But my 2p:

Has anyone ever tried "pot tweaking" the CD lens when they've got err3? (i've done it with old xbox's..... :arrrggg-matey: ) all you need is a small phillips head, a multimeter, and some common sense....oh and patience :)

Anywho, just a thought :whistling:

and I doubt cd lens cleaners will do much for avoiding the dreaded err3....

.....it's coming.......and it bites

EDIT: here's a link to someone pot tweaking a thompson drive:
