What type of diagnostics socket is this? It is located in the drivers footwell on my '96 GS300. Is there a reader that can be plugged into it or is it just one that pins need to be connected together and then read the Check Engine light?

That's the earlier diagnostic socket before OBDII and it's a case of shorting out various pins ( mainly TP and TE ) to access the flash codes for the many ECUs.

yeah that's obd i, i don't think you can plug a reader into it, unless only dealers have the stuff to read it. like steve says, its a case of shorting out the pins and counting the number of flashes on the dashboard light.
