I've seen the discussion about fitting the Quanan parking sensors (see this thread) and was wondering if anyone has any experience (good or bad) with the Tarus system as it does not require drilling holes (or sticking on) externaly visable sensors.

The details I've found for the Taurus system are on this site.

Any suggestions as to which would be the better system to fit?

Hi

Before I joined the Lexus owners club I purchased a Taurus system on the advice of the dealer who I purchased my Mk1 GS300 from as I was put off by the need to drill mounting holes for the recessed sensors (Quanan type).

I was quoted £80 for both types of system plus £150 for fitting the recessed sensor type as against £50 for the Taurus.

As I was on a tight budget I decided to buy the Taurus kit and leave fitting till later as my priority was to get my car up to sport spec.

The guy who has been assisting me with the mods to my car has been fitting parking sensors to his customers cars for ages and swears by the Taurus system because they are easier to fit. My brother has had a system fitted to his Merc Ambiente people carrier and he is very pleased with the system.

I will hopefully be getting mine fitted this weekend together with my boot spoiler and can post some info if it is of interest.

Although on a slightly different note, my brother in law sells security / survellance equipment. He thinks he can get a 12v camera (black / white or colour), the processor unit and a 4 inch monitor (black / white or colour) for somewhere between £100 and £150. The monitor size and quality can be increased if required (at a slightly higher cost).

Oh yea, back to the original point. I reckon with a cunningly designed bracket I could mount this camera on the underside of the bumber, discreet probably be only 15-25mm diameter run a few cables through and bob's your uncle full visability when reversing! I know that some lorries currently operate this system that gave me the thought. It's just trying to get all the bits cheap enough now.

what do you think?

How much use is the parking sensor? I thought about fitting one, but the spec on most systems says from about 1.5m down to 30cm. It seems that the spacing between the sensors limits the short distance range because they only 'see' across 120 degrees, so you get gaps in the coverage at shorter distances. I usually need to get closer than that when parking, like within 5cm.

HI EVERYONE

Last week installed the Taurus system on my GS300 II together with the Local Lexus dealer. who by the way didn't beleive it would work, We first made a mock-up on the outside and it proved working perfectly. Bumper was removed, the strip was attached in the bumper and the leads where run through the car at the air vents behind the bumper. The control unit was placed in the left pocket of the boot and the lead with speaker was mounted behind the pillar at the rear door. Since the volume is pretty high there is no need to trace the lead up front.

The system works perfectly, giving clear indication even when a child passes behind the car. I still have to experiment with the sensitivity though because I don't know what the difference is when you adjust this.

As result my dealer was very enthousiastic about the system, since their own system costs roughly 700 Euro.

Further more you cannot detect that there is a system on board leaving the car with the nice original look.

Rating: 1-10: 10!

Time needed by dealer: 2 hours.

Costs for system: approx. 90 pounds

regards

Lecati
