Having just spent £300 on a pair F1 GSD3 rear tyres two weeks ago, I find a nail sticking out of the inner side wall of one of them yesterday. Well :tsktsk: off. My question is what is repairable? I know your kwik-fits and the like will only do centre tread repairs that are nowhere near the edges, but are there places that can do side wall repairs? The tyre hasn't gone completely flat (down to 15psi overnight) so there is no other side wall damage from rim to tyre contact. The thought of chucking out £150 worth of 8mm tread is not a pleasant one :crybaby:

I had that with one of my tyres........... I tried to get away with it for a few weeks, since it didn't acutally seem to go down, but then the slow puncture started and that was the end - had to change it :( :(

Can you post a pic of the puncture? Mine was right at the edge where the sidewall meets the top of the tyre.

I think even if you did manage to find someone that will do it, it will probably have increased the chance of a blow out....might be best just to replace it....gutting though as you just bought it :crybaby:

Just looked it up, could be a possibility. Anyone recomend any vulcanised repairers?

I'm going to get the tyre removed shortly. I'll take a pic once I've got the tyre back home.

I suppose it depends on what a repairer says. If they think it can be fixed good and proper, then they know better than I do. If they say it can't, then it is £150 down the drain I guess :(

if its sidewall you wont find anywhere that will touch it - unless its a dodgy backstreet place in the early hours.. same goes for a puncture near the sidewall radius - its only the middle 3/4 of the tread that can be repaired with a plug.

That's why I am not getting it plugged, after following 2D's "vulcanised" bit above, it appears there is a way. From what I can gather, it is in the region of £30-£40 to get the repair done (vulcanised repair - assuming the specialist asseses the tyre as repairable). As it is at the moment, I couldn't find anyone who could do a GSD3 today, so I am actually two tyres down, £300 worth as I don't like using unmatched pairs so i now have a pair of continentals on the back. I don't fancy losing all that money in rubber so £40 is better than £300 if it can be done properly, the GSD3's can then go back on once the continentals wear out. It is worth a punt finding out IMO. If the tyre was half worn, I would just call it a day and bin it, but with only a few hundred miles on it, I want to explore other options if possible.

Have you got the details anyway Trudi? In all likely hood I would have to ship the tyre to a specialist to do it anyway. Or I can try and sort it into a trip further up north anyway.

if you find a place that will do it i have a kenda?(i think) 215/35/19 with loads of tread with what sounds like the same kind of puncture..........i dont want the tyre but if anyone needs one they can have it for postage.

Sorry, pics are rubbish but this is the inside and outside with the nail showing either side. I had to outline the nail on the outside pic to show it better.

Unfortunately not mate. Mail ordered tyres and fitted by one of the local tyre/wheel shops.
