Hi

A funny old day today.....

Had an offer accepted on a house were buying, had my Discovery fail its MOT (only a rusty brake pipe).... then

Sat in traffic with another Discovery behind me, drivers foot slipped off the clutch and she kangaroo hopped into the back of the Lexus, actually felt like four or five impacts before the Discovery stalled.... turned out she had just started driving it and was having trouble with its big pedals!!!!

Anyway 1 1/2 tons of Discovery chugging into the back of the Lexus has written off the rear bumper and its strengthener, the whole rear panel, the boot lid, three out of the four light units and the reversing sensors !!!

Doesn't look that bad but I expect the bill will be huge....

Oh well silver linings and all that, there were a few chips on the rear bumper where the previous owner must have had trouble with his golf clubs, judging by the number of t's found in the spare wheel well!!!

What’s going to happen tomorrow???

Sorry to hear about your tale. I know accidents can and do very occassionally happen but in this case I might have found it very hard to keep my cool if someone said to me that they were struggling with big pedals.

I remember a few years ago when someone went into the back of me they said that somthing happend to their car. The brakes didn't work. It was a foreign gentlemen driving a c class Merc. As soon as he said that, I got the police involved and on the scene as he admitted that his brakes were faulty and was ready to drive off. Turned out that nothing was wrong with his brakes and he was prosocuted for wasting police time.

I'd like to think I would take it as well as you seem to have done.

Can't seem to get too upset these days, a few years ago I would have been mad as hell, but hey what do we pay huge sums for insurance for??!!

Thanks, she was very shaken up by it and very sorry, she phoned me about an hour later to check I was alright and was horrified when I told her how much damage had happened to it, I think she felt bad enough without me shouting at her....

check your boot floor for rippling etc....

Yeah I sure will, they have put down for a rear panel repair/replace and to check the floor, its a Lexus/Merc/BMW approved body shop who have a very good reputation so I'm sure it will be repaired properly..

Wow, did that much damage by just slipping off the clutch when stationary? That's a surprising amount of damage!

Hope it all sorts out ok :)

I noticed your in Hull, the body shop wouldn't happen to be Prestige would it ?

Had my car in there twice and they did a great job. I wasn't too sure about the bright yellow mini as a courtesy car though.

Yeah was quiet amazed, it doesn't look too bad from 10ft but it hit the weakest point, just where the bottom of the bootlid meets the top of the rear panel, pushed them both in abit which has bowed the top of the bootlid up and pushed off the interior trim on the back of the rear panel, luckily the boot still opens and closes its just a few inches shorter!!!

Yes Prestige are doing it I have heard they are good, mid sized privately owned shop who still care about customers.

Yeah, poor woman, she was sooooo sorry, The woman was as white as a sheet and couldn't speak for a few minutes, had to feel sorry for her really, she had just got insured for it at 11.30am and had the prang at 12.30, it was her partners car and he was going away for a few weeks and let her use it, she said she wasn't going to tell him until he was away because he would be so furious!!!

Sorry to hear your pride and joy took a hit Pete, thankfully everyone is ok and the bodyshop can put your car back as good as new.

Best of luck with the repairs.

This goes from bad to worse though, we are currently in a rented house, (sold ours in two days and had nowhere to go so rented for a while) anyway three times I have complained about debris falling off the roof and three times the letting agent did s*d all.... anyway I have been parking the Lexus as far from the front of the house as possible, about 15 ft away. On Friday in that high wind a section of tile blew off the roof, dropped onto the fake plastic canopy over the front bay window, used this as a slide and managed to land on the bonnet and bounce its way nearly all the way up leaving damage all the way.....

Got onto the agent again and to cut a long and agressive story short the household insurance will be paying for a respray on the bonnet and front bumper, which will involve blending the paint into the front wings.... so thats all the front and all the back to be sprayed...

Took some pictures of the back below.... The estimate for the repairs to the rear is £1000 labour/paint/materials and approx £2000 parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't look too bad from here, you can see how the boot has bent and is higher than the rear wing at the top.

You can see where the boot has been pushed in here

24022008082.jpg

Hard to see but the light is sticking out from the wing and the bumper is crased below the light, it is the same on the other side as well

24022008081.jpg

Look at the plastic trim at the top of the picture it has popped off and stayed straight so you can see the whole back has gone inwards about 2 inches..

The front won't show on pictures it is just scratched and chipped with a small dent on the bonnet.
