Hi 2D i believe this is normal .....mine does it...but dont keep turning the wheel on full lock you are putting to much of a load on the pump etc

or it could just be a slightly loose belt or may need spraying....gave mine to lexus and they put belt spray on....and then fitted a new pump but still does the same?

:winky:

I have the same problem, ive put it down to a loose power steering belt.

Rob, what does that mean? Id like to look into it more, but no idea where to start.

Cheers

ok u have a steering pump that pumps fluid to 1 side or the other of the steering rack depending on the position of the steering wheel, if you go to full lock you are putting fluid all on one side so valve is fully open - somewhere is a pressure relief valve, if the valve is fully open presure is only on the 1 side and that pressure builds up so u need someway to relieve it. whether it be by pump design or a primative pressure releif valve - as the pressure is released u can get a resonance ( or a chattering) of the valve this can sound like a squeal.

turn the steering wheel slowly to full lock, when the sounds starts stop turning the wheel and then rev the engine a fair bit what happens then???

mine has never made a sound so i cant check this - would be interesting
