I have had the Dunlop Sportmaxx tyres on my IS 250SE-L for the last two years and have just changed them all to Toyo T1-R’s after reading various reports on them and seeing that Lexus use them now as original equipment tyres.

The first thing that my wife and I noticed was that they are much quieter than the Dunlops, we estimate at least 25% less road/tyre noise coming into the cabin from the Toyos.

At first we both had mixed thoughts whether it improved the handling or not but after a couple of hundred miles to “bed in” and a late night trip back from friends on some A roads (non dual carriageway) I am now convinced that they are better. To be honest even if the handling had not improved it would still have been a good change as the car is so much quieter. I just wonder how quick they will wear now, better or worse than the Dunlops.

Also at £414 fitted & balanced from my local tyre dealer they were a lot cheaper.

I hope this is of help to anyone thinking of replacing their tyres.

I think the Toyos in either T-1R or the newer T-1S treads are supposed to be very competent tyres. Like the Kumhos - they appear to have been very well received. Would be interested to know how you find them once they start to wear down though - as the Michelin Pilots grip right to the end.

T1 Rs are the newer ones

Just going to say that....the T1-R supercedes the T1-S (for improved wet performance). T1-S is being phased out by Toyo as more sizes in the T1-R are made available. I've had Toyo T1-R's on my IS250 for over a year now...first thing I noticed was the drop in the road noise.

As a result of my experience with the T1-R's I have put Toyo Proxes 4 on my IS200 Sport. The Proxes 4 have been developed as a high performance tyre since the T1-R.

Used Toyo's for years... T1-S and T1-R's and never had one grumble from them...

only other tyre that came close was the original Bridgestone Potenza RE-77.

Do you have the Tyre sizes for your car please ?

Here we DJ Wozza taken from the tyre.

My dealer thought about the Proxes 4 but you can't get the rear 245's in them, hence the T1-R's

From Toyo's website these are the sizes available.

Yes I know, that's why I've only got them on the IS200 (17"), as my 250 has T1-R: -

225/25ZR19 on the front

275/30ZR19 on the rear

Am I reading these posts correct as Toyo do not offer a complete range of tyres for the IS250 eg,I need 18/255/40 for my rears not thinner tyres that will marginally offer a better ride & lower noise level?

I've had Toyo T1-R's on my IS250 for over a year now...first thing I noticed was the drop in the road noise.

This is the only slight gripe with my IS250. Everything is dandy but I'm sure the road noise could be improved. The stock tyres on my car are the Dunlop SPs. I will change them to the Toyo tyres when they are due for changing.

Well my IS250 is a brand new car and they aren't Toyo's - they are Dunlop SP sports.

In what sizes ?

Standard 17" alloys. Not looked at the wheel for exact sizes.

guess it depends on certain issues that i dont know :) but those proxes r32 are made/designed for the new gen IS. not sure if it is dependant on when it was made etc

Yeah I'm running T1-S's on my 18" rims aswell. Will upload some pics when the car comes back from the bodyshop.

Personally i think the T1-R's were ok but abit over hyped... I fitted them purely because of the great reviews they got on this site... but i found them to wear quickly and when pushed they broke away inconsistently...

anyway replaced them with Goodyear F1's (GS-DE) and there's no going back to the Toyo's for me... more grip wet and dry and when pushed you'd know exactly when they were breaking free and how they'd come back in nice and without drama....

also when saying goodbye to a tyre i usually have a bit of fun and found the Toyo rubber came away in big strips whereas the Goodyear stayed together and just wore down to the wire... different class alltogether as far as I'm concerned..... just my few cents :)

Reason I've always stayed away from Toyo is that I keep reading stuff about how there's a huge quality difference between their tyres - sounds like you got some of the bad ones.

Agree about the Goodyears, I'm on the new F1 Asymmetrics and they are a fantastic tyre - quiet with incredible grip
