Hi guys,

Currently over in the states visiting my folks.

My dad's car (Acura MDX) has a slight left-right rocking through the steering wheel at low speeds. It doesn't get worse through braking or when travelling at higher speeds.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Rob

ive sent you a pm....

acura are American hondas basically....the MDX is based on the Honda Odyssey and its a big MPV

and its 4 wheel drive,version yes/no

They are a V engine,,,,,which size engine is it, the new one is a 3.7 v6

id have said tyre deformation , but its the same at any speed.....odd

so the rocking is at the same frequency, regardless of speed

my dads not around at the mo, and he has the car, but it has some sort of 4WD button thingy. not sure on engine size but is 3.X L

the rocking is literally a left to right repetitive swagger of the steering wheel. looks as if a ghost is rocking it from side to side.

its really unusual and i've never heard or seen it before.

it doesn't get worse with increased speeds, but its still there.

bizarre!!

nope, its fine at standstill.

and no rocking at higher speeds. its only when going slowish (0 - up to 30 ish)

its a harmonics issue then, it could be anything with a rotating mass....

the gearbox, or propshaft or even a slight misfire on the engine.

it could be that it has got a warped tyre

erm remove the gearbox

does it ever get used off road.....it could be mud behind the rim causing it to be out of balance.

regards a misfire on the engine...take it to a delaer maybe unless you can see it yourself.

its pretty impossible to diagnose a fault without actually seeing or hearing something.

there are forums for the car in the US id have thought?
