As of 1st January 08 there will be a nominal fee for the fine-tunes.

wim recognizes the trauma suffered at the chassis during a calibration is subject to the chassis settling... For this reason we have offered a free fine-tune to re-capture the absolute calibration positions.

The fine-tune guarantee's the owners unique driving style and the chassis is a perfect match..... Additionally if the intention for the car is track orientated then the performance may need enhancing.

To maintain our support a nominal fee for the fine-tune of £30+ vat will be charged.

Note: Cars already calibrated but due for a fine-tune in 08 are exempt from the additional fee.

Project cars domestic or track orientated are also exempt.

Any thoughts good or bad on this decision would be welcomed

Tony.

I thought it was an excellent service to do something for free, not many people do that these days. Although I couldn't take up the offer of the fine tune properly due to the distance :(

I see no reason why a small fee shouldn't e charged for a specialist service.

Only problem I can see is the exclusions. Most people on here see there car as a 'Project' so would that mean everyone with a mod would be exempt?

Agreed it's not a lot to ask, but as Lee says you would have to specify exactly what constitued a project car becase every car is a project car in some way or another. Another way round it is to just add £30 onto the original tune? People would pay that no hassle and there would be no ambiguity as to who has a project car and who doesn't.

I think the service is great, I still need to book in for my fine tune, but even if you had asked those to already due their fine tune to pay, it would still be fair.

I think its down to the fact that users who travel to see you know what it is they are getting fixed, its not a "chore" like service, its something that we want done and for that reason there's no compromise on price.

.....

.....

Just read what i wrote, and I'm not sure I'm making sense, but if you get me, then cool :)

Which reminds me, seeing as I'm on annual leave from work, ill pop round and see you this week or next for my fine tune.

Keep up the good work Tony, I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we do appreciate it.

I see your point Lee.

To explain.... Over the years wim has picked certain cars and offered research with the car for free.. The reason for this is that we learn, the customer is protected in his investment and finally the data is made available here in LOC for free.

The IS200/300/SC calibration was re-written by wim and used four cars. The end calibration data is here in the clubs knowledge bank.

One IS300 on 18"'s was calibrated 8 times....

We used a Tezza to map the calibration positions after each lowering of the coil-overs.... This study took two years but is yet to be released.

We have a supercharged IS200 on budget tyres we are monitoring.... The owner is blogging the topic so i won't spoil it.

Currently we have two IS250's, one stock and one lowered being compared for tyre preservation and chassis stability.

Monster mats Drifty has offered much education to wim since mat is so able to describe how the chassis feels and where he wants to take it.

These are the research cars and allows us the advantage when setting the modified car.

Yeah, i know that, from your sig :)

So it's just WIM project cars :)

they should really know they are getting it for free anyway ;)

How about cars that are prepared to advertise the WIM brand by having a graphic on there car :)

Yep just the wim project cars..... The data acquired is valuable to us all.

I would be a fool not to compromise the fine-tune fee if the owners is prepared to display wim decal :)

i think the fee is fair tony got no prob in paying that for future tune up`s at least we all know that the car will be sorted and will be set up the way it should be....and i would be more than happy to put some WIM stickers like the LOC stickers in my car if they where available..

I think to add it to the original price paid as an option

ie with (and maybe a slight disount as an incentive)

or without and pay the full money on the fine tune later.
