Handbreak Light

Recommended Posts

lexus IS200 SE 1999

i noticed it on sunday. after starting the car and taking the handbrake off the light went out.. but 5-10 seconds later it was back on telling me the handbreak was "applied" ... when it wasnt.

still doing it now. a hammer didn't fix it.... ah ha ha joke...

im assuming i should look for a switch of some sort in the handbrake area, just thought id ask just in case anyone had any ideas?

Check the brake lights, betcha one them isn't working. Had the same problem a couple of years ago, in my case the rear brake light (in the rear windscreen) wasn't working. I replaced the damaged bulb- problem fixed.

Also check that there is enough brake fluid, this can cause the handbrake light to come on.

BTW- The IS doesn't have brake pad wears indicators, therefore no wear indicator light will show on the dashboard.

i heard a rumour that you might be able to buy parts for lexus cars at a lexus dealer, but i might have been given the wrong information - its just a rumour though.
