I'm wanting to buy something from an eBay supplier based in Hong Kong.

The item costs about £100 and shipping is £40.

If i get done with import charges etc, how much is it likely to be and how and when is it payed??

its cost of item plus postage then 10% of that then 17.5% of that.

BUT depends on the mood of whoever works out the charges...........and if they understand the value of the currency............

More like £41

£100+£40 = £140

Add 10% = £154

Add 17.5% = £180.95

Deduct £140 = £40.95

Incidentally, the rate of Duty will depend upon the item being imported and varies from 0% to 25%. On certain goods there may also be excise duty to pay . . . . :o

They don't make it easy.

its a digital camera for the missus. costs a fortune over here but found a good price overseas.

comes with some extra bits and pieces so still worth it i think....

friend of mine bought a camera for a lot more than that from eBay was to be shipped from China but it never arrived, he was very foolish and learned a hard lesson, bargin that he thought cost him dear, wire transfered the money to make it worse as the buyer refused paypal, months of trying but no reponse.... :(

what brand is the camera? have you tried online stores, i can recommend "pixmania" as reliable and fair priced ;)

opted against the hong kong import jobby and just bought the camera from buyacamera.co.uk.

good price and very good customer service.

will be with me on monday :)
