Water Leaks & Door Checks

Hi All,

I am new to the forums having just acquired a W-reg IS200 2 weeks ago.

Here's a bit of background about the car: W-reg 2000 IS200 SE Auto with full Lexus service history and 90k miles on the clock. Overall condition is good and it looks generally well looked after.

I have a few issues with the car that I need to get resolved but I'll stick to the 2 in the subject.

1. I have water gathering in the o/s well in the boot. I have traced this to a small split between 2 panels where they join behind the rear light cluster. A temporary fix with some silicone sealant will tide me over until I can repair it properly. This may be useful to others as I have read a few threads about water in the boot that were never resolved.

2. I fitted a new Battery after buying the car as the previous (original) Battery had a duff cell (poor electrolyte gravity). In changing the Battery I noticed that the lower Battery mounting tray was full of water. I have since found that water running down the windscreen goes through the holes in the black plastic scuttle and on the n/s is coming out of a gap in the bulkhead where the windscreen washer pipe comes out. The water then either drops down directly onto the major loom beneath it or splashes into the Battery tray.

Surely this cannot be right? Is there meant to be a seal there or have I got some other problem? I can see a drain hole at the end of the scuttle but the water will never get that far as it comes out the gap previously mentioned. The windscreen looks original so no one appears to have had a fiddle in that area.

My next problem concerns the door checks. These seem excessively worn (no longer hold the doors open) and the design pretty poor. Lexus wanted £50+VAT each for these which seems somewhat excessive. Are these the same as any fitted to any of the Toyota range of vehicles or is there a better upgrade to this shoddy part?

Any advice gratefully received.
