This Is Not A Joke

Recommended Posts

hi all,

got me tyres aligned just now in Ilford Lane, East London for 15 quid. Yes fifteen quid. I thought they were having a larf so I really had to check shop out. I was shown the machines and stuff cos they could see I was a bit sceptical. They sell tyres and alloys.

Anyway, I know it,s not Lexus but it beats the 211 Quid I was quoted on Friday by Lexus in Grove Park. By my poxy maths, even if I go there for an alignment once a month, it will take 14 months before I catch up with the Lexus quote.

Someone please tell me I cocked up. I actually stopped to ask for directions to a shop where me mate used to align his beemer, till I was told they will do it.

If they had charged around 100, I would have gone straight to Lexus, but 15? I am sure it would be up to 30 quid next week as they could see the disbelieve on me face.Fingers crossed.

I tried several places to have mine done but once I mentioned 18" wheels, they all sucked in a lot of air and pointed me in the direction of an imaginary dealer.

I just happened to mention it in work one day to the logistics manager who surprisingly said, "I'll do it for you no problem" and guess what? He did. Turns out he was an area manager for Quick Rip throughout the North West and something that he aquired in his time in the game was a 4 wheel laser alignment thingy me bob.

I took the car to work, made him a cup of tea and listened to his tales of rubber from over the years as he handed me the autodata book to find out my correct toe in settings.

Turned out my nearside front wheel was toeing in 4 mill which surprised me as it was the off side that was injured in its accident.

He showed me the way the set up worked and got me to do the track rod unscrewing and the adjusting and then showed me the results on the laser display.

Sorted.

It cost me a cup of tea, a few beers and a replacement Battery for one the lasers cos it was on its last legs. :D

How much for Lexus to do it?!?!?!

I think I'll use the garage I used to go to before I got my IS

Last week, matthew said, he once paid £95 for it. I was quoted £211, so when the guy said £15, I told him he didn,t undertand what I wanted, so I had to speak to his boss so confirmed it.

If you get them done when you get your tyres replaced then Headley tyres (in Berkshire) will do a free check and charge around £7 to align them (again, it's optical alignment). It's not actually that much work for them to do.
