Whats the most you got out of your pads and tyres on your IS

I was talking to my Uncle last night who had my original blue IS. Now that car is a 2000 on a 'X' reg and covered 29,000 (yes only 29,000 miles)

But what is more amazing is that its still on the original pads and tyres

tires last me around 35K ( sp9000 japan) and i have changed the pads once in 7 years - i have done 55K

Pads need doing now at 37K. Mine's an Auto so I wondered if they would wear out quicker than on a manual (less engine braking).

Not sure about tyres as they were fitted by previous owner.

Tyres, around 10k miles.

brake pads get changed every 10k miles, regardless of state, sometimes sooner if a track day was involved :)

My Brakes changed after around 6 years and 40k and tyres were fairly regular due to incorrect geometry, just got some new tyres i hope they last 30k at least!

Car has now 55k on the clock, Pads changed at about 35k on my 3rd set of tyres and wheels.

My car’s now done 10,650 from new. The tyres are Yokohama A041s and they are showing significant signs of being knackered, with some down below 3mm tread depth. The wear’s pretty even across the tyres – I had the good doctor check and reset the geometry for me at 4000 miles.

So, 12,000 miles as a prediction for these tyres isn’t very good and the car’s not had that hard a life. What tyres do I go for next, for a reasonable compromise between life, grip and noise? Dunlop SP9000 seem popular, but I’d be interested in others’ views.

Edit (30 Jan 2008): at 12900 miles, the rears are almost down to the wear bars, and the fronts won’t be far behind, so I have ordered 4 new tyres: Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s, based on the recommendations of various folks on the site. A set of 4 (to be fitted on Saturday) was £350 through black circles.

My car's done 135,000 miles and it's still on its original pads and disks. I don't use my brakes much -- 50 mile commute each way with motorway type driving nearly all the way.

thats got to be a record surely, never got more than 15k out of mine but then its a heavy auto car so expected but 135k that is incredible .

Just changed front pads at 44k, nearly down to metal, thought that there was some sort of warning before they got that far down. Tyres (bridgestone) last about 17k.

There's a small metal tab on one pad of each front pair. It's designed to make a loud screeching sound as it rubs against the disk just before the pad is down to the metal. I'm not sure how effective it is though, so it's best to keep your eye on them rather than rely on hearing it.

My car is coming upto 30k and its on its 2nd set of tyres (wheels and tyres were brand new when i bought the car in march on 15k) and needs a new set of pads pretty dam quick as it was picked up on the MOT that they would need doing at the next service......

.....My geo needs doing so i dont expect large amounts of miles out the bridgestones that are on there! :(

thats it exactly... totally depends on the roads and driving style..... :winky:

discs are recommended to be replaced when they measure 30mm in front and 10mm at the rear, wonder how often they actually get measured? main dealers probably do....
