hi, i'm relatively new to this forum. i think the info here is fanatastic. thanks to all who contribute. about the smoke from the hood... check to see if all the plastic covers on the engine are ok. i had a similar problem and found that the plastic cowling that goes along the side of the engine, the one that extends from under the oil cap gets brittle after some time. it then breaks up and pieces fall onto the manifold. when the plastic pieces melt they give off smoke. you will find a type of burning smell when you open the bonnet. if this is the problem, scrape off as much of the pieces off the manifold and replace the cowling.

i hope this helps.
