Is 300 Sportcross Fuel Starvation

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys and Gals, please bear with me this is my first post and hope I'm in the right area. My Dad has the above Sportcross lovely car and in true Lexus fashion beautifully made and joy to dirve. As a family we have owned 6 Lexi (is that correct) all lovely cars....however my Dad's car which is a 2002 and now only 17,000 miles has suffered various fuel starvation issues while under warranty and post warranty.

Initially it was an isolated and very infrequent event of the car braking down, under warranty period it was taken in and diagnosis was replacement engine management system. Very recently and out of warranty same problem but this time they replaced the throttle body......your comments greatly appreciated as follows:

1. Is this common withis car

2. Is the engine management system related to the throttle body

3. Was tere a recall on any of the above

Thanks for your kind assistance....

1) - Not common fault (that ive heard of). Could be a problem with the fuel filter/pump.

2) Throttle body has sensors, ie tells the ECU / Engine mangment how much the throttle is open. (linked to the accelrator cable). bad sensors or faulty Throttle body would cause the car to stall, idle incorrectly.

3) None that i know of.

Could you list the actuall problems with the car,

Mileage you have done, any service history, and kind of service has been done. (list parts please)

Thanks for the replies, don't know about codes, it seems the throttle body and ECU are one of the same?

...this info might not be of any use but I've had fuel starvation problems in an other car (currently own same 02 sports cross as your dad) and it was a fuel pump. Bearing in pump was going and when it got hot, it expanded and slowed the pump so that there wasn't enough pressure to get the injectors to work. Once it's cooled down then it was ok - untill it was hot again. Thing is, it took a long run to get it to fail - so, as you live in London and the cars an 02 and only done 17k miles, maybe your dad only does short runs, and maybe it only fails on the occasional long run...

Good luck

jack

...if your dad gets fed up with the car and wants to swap it for one with no problems - and 50k on the clock, just let me know.
