Sump Plug

Hi all,

Just wondering does having a magnetic sump plug help the engine in any way. The gearbox plug on my manual is200 is magnetic, which attracts the shavings in a grey sludge. Just wondering if I put this on will I affect the noise of the car. I say this as a lexus dealer recommended that you should not use engine flush on cars which have done over 40K, as this will cause the engine to knock. I was about to buy the engine flush and he told me not to. So does the magnetic sump plug do the same thing as the engine flush? Cheers.

It just stops any ferrous contaminent from circulating with the oil as it's retained on the magnetic sump plug (and hopefully the oil filter). Would have thought that the only time to use a flushing oil is when an engine hasn't had regular oil and filter changes, in which case the engine will probably knock if the poor maintenance has caused undue wear (in which case the magnetic plug will also have excessive grey ferritic sludge).

Thanks for the reply, I change the oil every 3-4k, I use 10-40 Eneos Oil (75% of japan use this oil in their cars). I tried 5-30 and I thought it was a bit too thin. I might try 5-40 Eneos oil and see how that is. Also I will go ahead a buy the magnetic sump plug or even the TRD oil filter. Oil filter is expensive but says the life of the engine is prolonged due to quicker filtration and beter filtering than the OEM. Thanks again.
