Hi guys and girls.

Here's an idea in embryo. Just chucking it around to see response and interest.

Later on in the year (possibly Oct or Nov) how does a LOC day-trip to Calais sound for a bit of alcohol and other stuff shopping? Can share vehicles and take a crossing in the morning and load the cars with alcohol and other french stuff and return that evening.

Has this ever been done before? What's the interest level on it? I'm quite happy to organise it - might need some assistance (nudge nudge Rikos) if it's deemed a good idea. If it's a total dead herring then, oh well lol!

That name has so stuck now! But yes she will be going. I think it could be a bit of fun, and most productive bringing back copious amounts of alcohol and stuff.

Just checked on ferrysavers.com.

Prices for day trip per vehicle is £32 for a Saturday in Oct/Nov. That's not a bad price to be fair and it doesn't matter how many passengers are in the car.

went for a lovely meal

drove round the countryside

then a bit of shopping

was a great day, dont know why it hasnt been repeated

if you need a hotel i know a decent one in calais for £30 a night

There's a pick of cheap hotels in Calais for dirt cheap. I usually choose the hotel Formel 1 - was £20 inc breakfast last time I went.

Sounds like a bit of fun and good trip out so think i could be up for this.

Also when i was talking to the owners of the euro tunnel (train people) they said we could get cheaper rates booking as a group.

eurotunnel would be preferable to the ferry. much quicker, and more efficient. useful when you go across for only a day.

Sunday is a non working day in France, shops have to pay fines if they open on Sunday
