Engine Managment Light

Recommended Posts

After installing the new manifold and hi flow cat there has been an unwanted presence of the engine management light on m dash. I've cleared it about 8 times now and keeps coming back!

Whilst i was hard at work day dreaming away i thought " would it be possible to create a false current through the sensor to make it think everything is fine again?" After thinking about it i think it should work, if so has anyone else ever done this as electrical stuff isn't really me strong point lol.

It was either this or go back to my dark days and remove the bulb, although this proved to be a very stupid idea lol.

Or even if this has been done before is there a already made product to buy to plug in?

Whoever u bought the manifold and cat from should have known there was a possibility of the CEL coming on and should have told you! From what i remember u can get a simulator that will send the correct signal to prevent the light coming on.

Its a prolex manifold with their sports cat. I bought the manifold off an old member but i got the cat straight from them so i guess they weren't aware that i was going to be running both so they wouldn't have said.

Do you know where i could buy a simulator from, that would be perfect as doing this would still let me know about any further problem unlike pulling the bulb lol.

Why not get the fault codes read and find out what the problem is. Probably connected to the A/F ratio I would guess, or maybe a bad sensor.

Think about what you said in post #1 about removing the bulb, changing the signal to make it go out is just a more hi tech way of covering the problem IMHO.

easiest is to remove the EFI and ETCS fuses from the fusebox in front of the Battery for a few minutes

Make sure the ignition is turned off

Remove the engine bay fuse box cover

Remove the 20Amp/25Amp EFI fuse

Remove the 15Amp ETCS fuse

Wait 30 seconds

Re-insert the two fuses

Install the fuse box cover

....alternative is to remove Battery terminals for about 1/2hr - but you'll lose all your radio settings etc with the Battery method.

Plus, if the sensor is being triggered or is faulty - then the light will soon come back on again anyway....
