My home pc blew up last night, was the quickest it shut itself down in a long time

I think my power unit has blown as it was red hot and it wont power up now

How much are we talking to replace and would it have caused any damage

I don't work on this sort of thing, last time I looked PSU's were about 60 quid but I think they've dropped down to a really cheap level now at the rate they were going!

Bloody hell!

Show's how long it was since I've done ote like this - they've got some on eBuyer as low as 6 quid!

This one looks ok for 15 quid:

sometimes its just a thermal fuse and leaving it unplugged for a few hours will reset it

make sure you unplug it from the wall socket though.

Misco/Maplins do power supplies, make sure you get the right one.

mine did this a while ago, wasn't the power supply, motherboard died...apparently don't happen very often...think it might be an E-Machines thing because a mates did the same.

Been upto a local supplier called "overclockers"

their website is www.overclockers.co.uk

picked up a new power unit and a new NEC 18x18 DVD rewriter for £51

going install them later and fingers crossed it powers up

LOL that's not the OCUK with the famous Spie is it?

They're legendary for how **** their aftersales can be - have to admit I prefer the guys at Neo down there, much more trustworthy!
