Very interesting read as I too am not knowledgeable in the world of dyno's, at least not to this extent.

Thats some more pub talk for me for the weekend!!! LOL

Just a shame that all this knowledge happened to come about during somewhat of an arguement / dispute / debate or so on.

Aido, take the Astra VXR says its 240psi (most car makers now use this, psi) but bhp is less than 240 :duh: i do have the conversion somewhere :shifty:

Sorry, I hope you don't mind me correcting you  - "psi" is a unit of pressure (pounds per square inch) which is also an imperial measurement that is no longer used as an industry standard.

I think you may mean "PS"?

The power shown in the graph that Adie has displayed is measured in Metric Horespower, not Imperial Horsepower, therefore the power and torque curve will not cross at 5252 rpm

Now I'm totally confused - what's the difference between metric horsepower and imperial horsepower?

Does it just mean that on the graph torque is worked out as either lb/ft vs NM depending on whether it's metric or imperial, or does it mean that there are two different types of horsepower ratings?

Aido, take the Astra VXR says its 240psi (most car makers now use this, psi) but bhp is less than 240 :duh: i do have the conversion somewhere :shifty:

A Din hp (ps in German) is 0.736 kW

A brake hp (imperial bhp) is 0.746 kW

Hence on the mainland we have a 155hp IS200, and in the UK a 153bhp IS200. Both are 114 kW though ;)

Brilliant Neil...thank you for that detailed info, found it most interesting!!

It's posts and contributions from members like Neil that made LOC so good back in the day...shame we see so little of that now-a-days!! :(

It's also even better when someone who actually knows what they are talking about posts on matters like this!!

Could I ask how much they cost to have one done? I'd like to see if I still have as much BHP as it should have as when it was first made :( after watchin top gear that time with the old super cars they lost loads of horses lol...

Depends where you go mate. I paid £120 at Abbey Motorsport about 2 years ago.

as mark muted the metric German/European measurement of PS is no longer an industry measurement

however in Germany they still use it, as its a known measurement that all are familiar with, in metric countries more are moving to Kw
