nope

can I suggest that it was a PEBCAK issue?

mat can you sugest a solution

i click on explorer loads up home page (loc)

click on forums

it times out

go on explain which bit i did wrong ;)

if I were to diagnose this without any sight of your machine, I would guess that it sounds like a problem with your connection (work or home?)

basically, you are not connecting to the 'net - the home page and forum index are cached, and are being read from your hard disk.

When you try to access the forum, as there is no connection, it can't connect to the database.

I would say that there was a problem with a DNS server at your (companie) end.

It could be this new virus SQL Slammer - it affects servers. Loads of websites are running slow because of it

that would be a distinct possibilty Claire - except for the small fact that 'SQL Slammer' affects MS SQL Server databases on MS web servers, and LOC runs MySQL database on Apache web server..

an analogy would be a weakness found in the hull of the QE2 causing a problem on Concorde.

:D

I see,

so basically,

one's a boat, :geek:

and

one's a plane. :geek:

That makes it much clearer now.... :duh:

and how could something wrong with a boat affect the plane?

couldn't really.

if we say LOC is the plane, then the "boat virus" (sql slammer) can't affect it.

I had the same problem but it was all NTL'S fault for me! most of their servers were down. :( they tempt you in with a flashy 1 meg connection then it all goes pear shaped, come back BT-Brokenworld all is forgiven!!
