Can I Get A New Knob?

The gear knob on my is200 has been scuffed by a previous owner and looks a bit shabby so i was looking to replace it with an aftermarket one. Every one i saw that i liked seemed to be only for manual transmission and as my car is an auto i emailed the supplier to see if it would fit my car.

They replied by saying the gear knob wouldn't fit and also that they wouldn't reccommend changing it because "there are just too many critical components under an auto gear knob".

I screwed my gear knob off and found nothing that seemed too critical there!

Can anyone advise me whether this is true and what options i have in replacing the gear knob.
