Lowered Car?

I was flicking through a car modding magazine and came across the following passage about how to ensure your car passes an MOT.

"Brakes - Common problems are rusty break lines, perished rubber hoses and lowered cars with no adjustment for brake bias. Standard cars send around 60% or braking power to the front wheels. If you load up your boot, the brake bias valve compensates by sending more power to the back. When you lower your car, the bias valve thinks the car's weighted down and will cause the back wheels to lock up easier - a sure fire fail. So if you lower your car, get the brake bias adjusted by a pro."

I've never really paid attention to the tests carried out when an MOT test is due because my cars have never failed, but then again, they have never been modded. Now that I've recently lowered my car, I'm wondering if there is any truth in that article. How many of you with lowered cars have adjusted your brake bias?

:duh:

our cars do not have a rear axle linked bias valves...nothing to worry about

Isn't there a limiter valve on the nsr

nope, ive ever seen one, the brake bias is regulated by the ABS unit,

all 4 brake lines originate at the ABS unit

Compleatly agree with that,

I raised this issue when I lowered a previous car, turned out as above, because it had ABS there was no bias valve

cars that generally have a rear axle mounted brake bias valve are cars such as those with solid rear suspension beams/axles

e.g

peugot

VW golf

escort

pick ups

they are normally linked to the rear axle by an actuating(spring) arm which varies the opening of a valve within the valve body.

there are also no mechanical types which have a ball bearing within, these are usually fitted to cars that have independant suspension, as opposed to axles, thes etype wont be fitted to cars with abs as the abs modulator regulates oil feed to each wheel station
