Urgent-mechanic Or Garage Needed In London/essex

Left wheel bearing is getting noiser, too many bills this month so going to Lexus is way too expensive an option.

Need this sorted this week before my long trip up to Japfest.

I don't know who to trust to fix this properly. My usual place is Westfield Motors, but they can't see the car till June.

All I need then is to find a trustworthy place that is reasonably priced that can do the job. If any LOC members are able to do the job, I will pay them the same labour rate as an independent garage.

Can anyone recommend a place they know of in North London/Essex area? I work in Harlow if that's a help.

If you have no joy I know of a great Toyota expert in Sutton, about 20 mins drive from Croydon. Not quite Nth London or Essex though.

I don't suppose Mark at TDI could help you out, they are now based at Lakeside, he will no doubt post a response if he is able.

Thanks. I have placed a call with them. At the very least they have a bearing in stock for less than 60 quid. I walked into a nationwide autocentre today, and asked the guy if he could do the bearing. He sighed and said it's quite a NEW car to be doing, but he would get back to me with prices. Whilst leaving, the 18 year old mechanics in the workshop were mucking around with a customer's car and bolts seemed to be flying everywhere...

If you've ever used Jemca (in the same area) you may know that Jems was started up by the person who started up Jemca. Mention that you used them in the past and you saw Jemca's service get worse (even if you didn't/haven't used them!) you may find that they become extra helpful! Good luck.

Thanks again. Turns out I used to deal with Sam@Jem when I used to get my LS looked after by jemca. He's soooo helpful, and has booked me in for Friday, and will do it while I wait. He reckons the hub must be knackered if the bearing has gone again after only 2 years. Their prices are more reasonable too!!!

Hopefully, car will be ready for Japfest!

Its Toyota and Lexus Specialists Ltd, run by two guys Chris (LS400) fanatic and Martin (Soarer and electronics guru). They did my front suspension work for a fraction of the cost Lexus quoted.

They also dabble with imported toyotas and Lexus's.

Yeah they are in Connaught Road off Wrythe Lane just before St Hellier Hospital.

365 quid later at JEM, and the wheel bearing and the hub were replaced. 700 squid spent on wheel bearings in 7 days!! :tsktsk: :tsktsk:
